At the Ohio Immigrant Alliance, we do a lot with a little. And while we don’t usually go in for the same fundraising appeals everybody else uses, we really need your support for 2024.
Check out this document to learn more about HOW we do our work. We build, campaign to campaign, with a core group of immigrants, their loved ones, and other community leaders. We invest in them and their leadership. They invest their trust in us. We work side by side for individual and systemic change.
I’m proud that, together, we reduced ICE detention capacity in Oho by 76%. Brave Ohioans worked with lawyers to sue ICE, the Morrow County Jail, and the Butler County Jail over their abuses. But, many people who worked on those efforts were deported.
I’m honored that over 250 people who were deported confided in us about their experiences, hopes, and dreams and trusted us to share their pictures, voices, and stories with the world. The result is our new book, Broken Hope: Deportation and the Road Home, co-written with Suma Setty at the Center for Law and Social Policy. Download the ebook for free; listen to audio summaries in English, French, and Fulani; and order a paperback today! That’s one way to support the Ohio Immigrant Alliance. You can also make a tax-deductible donation at bit.ly/NoTaxOHIA.
In 2024 we’ll be taking Broken Hope to Congress, delivering copies of the book to Senate and House offices and coordinating constituency meetings so deported people can talk to their representatives. We’re supporting a leadership group in Africa to organize other deported people. And we’re releasing a groundbreaking, year-plus research project about racism in immigration court, authored by Nana Afua Y. Brantuo, PhD.
We truly believe that we must confront and attack racism in order to dismantle inhumane, unjust immigration systems. If you agree, please support our work with a tax-deductible donation. And thank you.
