RIP Pierre Damas Bel
Yesterday, a young man from Springfield died by suicide. According to his Instagram account and family, Pierre Damas Bel was devastated by the ankle shackle the Trump administration forced him to wear after taking his legal status from him.
He experienced bullying over it during his first week at Wright State University. Pierre was an honors student who graduated from Springfield High School in 2026 and a member of J-ROTC. He planned to go to medical school.
As Masked Agents Terrorize Springfield and Take Over City Property, Mayor Rue Offers "Thoughts and Prayers"
Masked ICE agents are conducting aggressive enforcement operations throughout Springfield, stopping vehicles mid-street, going door-to-door, and using city property as a staging area. At this week’s City Commission meeting, residents testified about the terror gripping their community.
How did Mayor Rue respond? By offering his thoughts and prayers.
Trump’s Afrikaner refugee lie
Trump's Afrikaner refugee policy is based on racism and outright lies. One of our partner organizations, the International Institute of Akron, recently made the difficult decision to reject federal funding for refugee resettlement because the Trump administration "essentially eliminated refugee arrivals."
Congress, What Are You Even Doing?
ICE’s murderous, unaccountable agents are uniting the country in outrage from north to south. The editorial boards of the Houston Chronicle and the Maine Trust for Local News issued a joint editorial, following the killings of two fathers, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas and Johan Sebastián in Maine. It begins: “The state of Maine and the city of Houston, Texas, have little in common. But today we find ourselves speaking in a united voice about the violence and chaos that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has brought to our respective corners of the country.”
Worst of the Worst: 152 Sexually and Physically Abusive ICE and Border Agents
Video recording, final report, data, and other content from the release of OIA’s new report, “The Worst of the Worst: 152 Sexually and Physically Abusive ICE and Border Agents; Implications for U.S. Communities and Actions Needed from Congress.”
NEW REPORT: Of 59 Criminal ICE and Border Patrol Agents, 85% Committed Sex Offenses, Nearly 2/3 Against Children
The Ohio Immigrant Alliance released “They Walk Among Us: A List of 59 Sexually and Physically Abusive ICE and Border Agents,” an analysis of sexual and violent crimes committed by ICE and Border Patrol agents who primarily preyed upon women and children.
The report documents 59 cases of violent and/or sexual criminal acts by DHS employees, primarily carried out against women and children. It puts the criminal behavior of these agents in context with the agencies’ cultures, as well as recent policy changes that bode dangerously for public safety. DHS has further loosened agent vetting, hiring, and training standards, eliminated accountability, and expanded the types of dangerous tactics agents are authorized to use in the enforcement of civil immigration laws.
Migrants Know the Solutions
If you want to know what’s wrong with the U.S. immigration system and how to make it work, don’t ask Congress. All they have done is over-fund the out-of-control agencies. Ask the immigration lawyers, and former immigration judges, agents, and immigrants who have been on the inside — some of whom have been violently discarded after building lives here for decades.
That’s what Demba Ndiath did in his new book, From Welcome To Deportation. Learn more about solutions from immigrants, lawyers, and judges in this blog post.
U.S. Senate shows the Treasury is really just an ATM for ICE
Well now we know. According to a majority of the U.S. Senate, and both of Ohio’s Senators, our tax dollars are just an ATM for ICE.
