COMMUNITIES NOT CAGES: Formerly Detained Immigrant and Cleveland Leaders Join National Day of Action to End Immigration Detention and Deportation

Cleveland — On March 3, immigrant leaders, advocates, and allies will gather outside the Carl B. Stokes Federal Courthouse to demand an end to immigration detention and deportations, as part of the “Communities Not Cages” national day of action. Diop, a local man who was previously detained in immigration jail, will also speak. 

WHAT: Action to demand the Biden administration close immigration detention centers, including the Seneca and Geauga County Jails, release people from detention, end deportations, and cut ICE and CBP’s budget 

WHEN: March 3, 2022 @ 4pm ET

WHERE: Carl B. Stokes U.S. Court House, 801 West Superior Avenue

WHO: Speakers include Chrissy Stonebraker-Martinez and Charlie Loewisch, IRTF – The InterReligious Task Force on Central America and Colombia; Tessa Xuan, OPAWL – Building AAPI Feminist Leadership; Antoine Tolbert, New Era Cleveland; Maryam Sy and Lynn Tramonte, Ohio Immigrant Alliance; Don Bryant, Greater Cleveland Immigrant Support Network. 

Diop, a local man who spent six months in immigration jail before being freed to continue his asylum case, will also give remarks.

The national campaign, “Communities Not Cages,” is led by Detention Watch Network, FIRM Action, American Friends Service Committee, United We Dream and We Are Home. Events are scheduled on March 3 in nearly two dozen cities around the country, including Dayton and Cleveland, Ohio.
