Deported to Mauritania, Lamine* is an advocate for TPS

Check out our digital press release for the introduction of the TPS For Mauritania Act of 2024, a new bill by Senator Sherrod Brown and Representatives Carey, Beatty, and Landsman! This bipartisan legislation would bring much-needed relief to thousands of Black Mauritanians who are seeking asylum in the U.S. Its introduction honors the tireless efforts of Black Mauritanian leaders who bravely challenge apartheid in Mauritania and unjust U.S. policies, while also caring for members of the community.

People who were deported to Mauritania are strong supporters of TPS.A Black man lies on the floor of a Mauritanian jail cell.

They have lived through the horrors of the deportation process; arrest, detention, and extortion in Mauritania; statelessness; land-grabbing; and other apartheid measures. “I don’t want nobody to go through what I’m going through,” says Lamine in our digital press release. Hear his and others words about the urgency of #TPSForMauritania at bit.ly/TPSDigital.
