“Lived Experiences, Mobilizing for Change” Theme of Four-Part Event 

Columbus – After an exciting kick-off featuring Daniela Pierre-Bravo of MSNBC (catch up here), the second session of the four-part virtual convening, Ohio Immigrants and Refugees: Lived Experiences, Mobilizing for Change, will focus on the world of education.

WHAT: “Education and Activism to Support Students from Immigrant Families” – The second in a four-part virtual convening about the immigrant and refugee experience in Ohio, the policies that affect their lives, and mobilizing for change.

This panel, moderated by Yolanda Zepeda, Assistant Vice Provost at the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at The Ohio State University, will discuss education challenges and barriers faced by immigrants and their children; innovative approaches to helping them succeed; and activism in schools. It will feature Reem Subei with Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE); Chrissy Foster, an ESL & Social Emotional Learning Practitioner with Columbus City Schools; Jessica Ramos of ABLE; Gabriela Pickett, PhD from the Dayton Public School Board of Education; Liz Morales with Student Community of Progressive Empowerment (SCOPE) at Ohio State; and Uma Archaya at North Community Counseling Centers.
